About Me and Genealogy

Lizzie ThorupI have always been fascinated by the family stories my mother would share with me since I was a child. I loved to hear them over and over. How my parents met, what it was like growing up, where were my grandparents born, what was their family life like...I love the stories. My mother also kept an excellent photographic record of us growing up that I loved to look through. I have loved this work for as long as I can remember. I first began researching in my teens when we lived in Ohio and I wanted to learn about the history of our farm and the families that had lived there, and I have been researching ever since.

I need 1000 hours of research experience, that I have tracked, in the region I wish to become accredited in. I have chosen the Mid-Atlantic region(Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland)of the United States, but I am currently doing research in New England, the Midwestern region, the Mountain West, and Ireland as well and am willing to do research anywhere. I always learn something new with each research project.

-In my research I look for at least three sources before I will "believe" the information is fact, however, each source is a clue and a piece of the puzzle.
-I call myself a genealogy detective because I often feel dissatisfied until I have all the details. Things need to make sense and I feel very driven to find all the pieces.
-I majored in Family History at Brigham Young University although I quit school when I started my family. I am a local family history consultant at our FH Library and teach lessons there from time to time. I am a research volunteer on a few websites and always have several projects of my own in the works.
-I love to learn and to share what I learn. I recently started using Blogs to organize my family research into stories and to share it with others. Not only has it helped bring our ancestors' stories to life for my family, but it has put me in touch with others researching the same lines. I will use this blog to track my hours of research, how I work through a problem, where I plan to look next and why, the results of my research, what is learned from the records found, and all of my sources.
